Business rates - Apply for discretionary rate relief

Introduction

Use this form to apply for discretionary rate relief.

To qualify for discretionary rate relief, these conditions must be met:

  • the ratepayer must be a charity or trustees for a charity, and the property must be wholly or mainly used for charitable purposes, or;

  • all of or part of the property must be occupied by one or more institutions, all of which aren't established or conducted for profit and each of whose main objects are charitable or are otherwise philanthropic or religious or concerned with education, social welfare, science, literature or the fine arts.

  • the property is wholly or mainly used for purposes of recreation, and all or part of it is occupied for the purpose of a club, society or other organisation not established or conducted for profit.

We'll need copies of your organisation's constitution/articles of association and latest audited accounts to support your application. You can attach these to the form on a later page.

Please refer to our Discretionary Rate Relief policy

If you occupy more than one property, please complete a separate form for each property.

We'll use the information provided in this form to decide whether to award discretionary rate relief. To help us with this, please provide full answers to each question, even if you've previously been awarded discretionary rate relief.
